Leadership Recognition

Leadership Recognition

“Leadership in the OCDSB is the demonstration of personal initiative to achieve a positive outcome.”

Students

As representatives of our student population, our students show leadership in many school-wide events.  Student leadership is a priority and activities such as lunch monitoring, student announcers during morning announcements, assemblies, student representative on school council, junior yard monitors as well as co-leads for  clubs/activities for primary students, are a few examples.

Caretaking in our community has been an ongoing focus for our school. Our students have raised money for Run for the Cure,  building wells in other countries,  and work hard every year to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation through our Jump Rope for Heart initiative. In sports, our students represented our school in board-wide tournaments.  These activities are critical to developing the spirit of service to the community.

Staff

Our staff members have a wealth of professional qualifications including Bachelors and Masters degrees as well as additional qualifications in Special Education, English as a Second Language, Music, Art, and Drama and Computers. They continue to participate in school and Board-wide professional development activities in literacy and numeracy, and we recognize their initiative by providing and supporting opportunities for further professional growth. As a strong, professional learning community, staff members provide professional growth experiences for each other in their sharing of ideas and materials, as well as through developing and providing common learning goals for students throughout the whole school. Staff have been involved on a collaborative inquiry about our First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Education.  Presently, we continue to strive to provide learning environment that maintains high expectations while providing the necessary supports to ensure all student success.

Parents/Guardians/Volunteers

Our parent volunteers, OCRI volunteers and members of the wider community support us on a weekly basis by reading with our students and by working individually with students and supporting classroom and school initiatives.

Our dedicated school council meets monthly and fundraise to support school initiatives. Our School Council hosts our annual Holiday Potluck Dinner in December. our fall and spring barbeques, and many other school initiatives. We love and appreciate the work of our parents and volunteers!

Community

We continue to welcome volunteers from ONFE and members of the wider community who   work with our students in a variety of ways including on special projects and interests, and curricular expectations.

Our partnership with CGI has provided our students with wonderful backpacks, the annual pancake breakfast in the fall, spaghetti lunch in December,  a school-wide assembly with a magician,  a school-wide barbecue in the spring for our students.  This year we welcome their partnership and support as we work with students to explore coding.
