Welcome to Robert E Wilson Public School, “a place we all call home”. My name is Beatrice Ocquaye and it is a privilege to be entering my fourth year as the principal of this amazing school and community. I have been an educator for over 25 years having taught in Ontario and British Columbia. My background and training in special education and my work as a classroom teacher (Kindergarten to Grade 8), ground my belief that every child can learn.
R. E. Wilson is a K-6 school located in the community of Vanier, serving 247 students. Our school offers an English program with 40 minutes of core French instruction, daily. We have two bilingual kindergarten programs on-site and an additional kindergarten program off-site. The off-site program started in 2010 as a partnership between Inuuqatigiit, the Centre for Inuit Children, and the OCDSB. Children attending this unique program are immersed in their Inuit culture, knowledge, and values while following the Ontario curriculum.
Our school community embodies the essence of diversity and inclusion. We uphold these ideals by valuing each child and ensuring they see themselves reflected in their learning and space every day. There are more than 10 different languages spoken by our students and families. We welcome and draw upon their lived experiences and first language skills to engage our students.
Our team of dedicated, experienced educators continually strives to provide quality instruction for our students. We offer an excellent program with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy. We are committed to understanding each student and truly knowing their strengths and their areas of growth to ensure academic success. We are committed to doing this work in partnership with parents. On behalf of the R E Wilson Team, we look forward to meeting with you and hearing your ideas throughout the year to bring your dreams for your child(ren) to reality.
