September 2021 Newsletter - Welcome Back!
Posted on 09/03/2021
Greetings R.E Wilson Families:

I hope you are well and continue to enjoy the summer holidays. We are busy at work getting everything ready to welcome students back to school. The first day of school is almost a week away. Thursday, September 9th is the start date for students in grades 1 to 6.

Kindergarten families will meet individually with the education team on the 9th and 10th of September. The start date for kindergarten students is Monday the 13th of September.

What do I need to know for the first day of school?
  • please arrive between 8:50 am and 9:05 am
  • all students (K-6) must wear a mask (please send two so should one get wet they can change it)
  • teachers will be waiting outside on the front lawn to receive your children
  • parents, please wear a mask and social distance when on school property
  • please pack a lunch, snack and water bottle *dress children for the weather as we expect the children to spend time learning outdoors
  • if it is raining please send an extra pair of shoes for indoors
Donation of Backpacks

We have received backpacks from community partners (Start2Finish Program and the Education Foundation). Every student will receive a backpack from the school

Parking at 373 McArthur

I am asking for your help with driving and parking at the school. In the past, we have had some near accidents due to the congestion of cars and pedestrians trying to enter and exit the parking lot. We want to ensure your safety and that of our children. Since we have limited parking for "drop off", please leave the parking spots for parents with infants or families with mobility issues. If you do have to use the school parking lot, once you have dropped your child off, please leave promptly so that another person who may have accessibility needs can use the spot. Please remember if you have to drive, you can also park on the side roads not far from the school and walk your child to school.

In order to maintain good neighbourly relationships with our community, please do not park at the neighbouring establishments or block their driveways. This makes it difficult for our neighbours to get in and out of their laneway. I appreciate your support, patience, and understanding as this will ensure the safety of our children and one another.

Boys and Girls Club:

There are 15 spaces available for the free after-school program at the Boys and Girls Club. These spaces are for students six years of age and up. Please email www.bgcottawa.org for more information and registration details. The start date for the program is Sept. 20th.

I know you may have questions about this new year and the safety protocols in place to keep your children protected. If you have any questions, please feel to contact me.

We look forward to welcoming our new and returning students and families.
